gewurztraminer_g.jpgFrequently, our appreciation of the wines of Alsace begins with the Gewurztraminer.
This is a particularly aromatic selection created in the 19th century from the Traminer variety, to be found in the Jura region under the name of ‘savagnin rose’. Nowadays, there are only a few tens of hectares of this variety planted in Alsace, near the district of Barr and bearing the appellation ‘Klevener de Heiligenstein’.

Alsatian wine growers have a soft spot for the Gewurztraminer…
Each vineyard leads us to discover new aromas: we take particular care to extract these aromas using a gentle and long pressing cycle, revealing them through a long (temperature) controlled fermentation. Often slightly sweet, Gewurztraminer responds well to overmaturation and produces excellent late harvest wines and ‘sélection de grains nobles’ wines.

Gewurztraminer is the very symbol of Alsace’s originality. A robust and full bodied wine, with an exuberant bouquet of spices, exotic fruit (lychee) and roses, it will accompany strongly-flavoured dishes, strong cheeses such as Munster, as well as being an ideal partner to Asian dishes, whether Chinese, Thai or Indian in origin.
